The Accelerating Resilience theme comprised mātauranga Māori, social science, and economic and engineering research to develop policies, tools and methods to ensure new resilience knowledge becomes part of daily decision making in Aotearoa New Zealand. New knowledge and tools developed in this theme have enhanced community preparedness, response and recovery, and been tailored to address the needs of rural and urban communities. Engineers have identified ways to improve the resilience of the lifeline utilities we rely on. Kaupapa Māori research has explored hazard impacts on Māori communities, and devised culturally-relevant strategies to enhance Māori resilience.
