The New Zealand Red Cross and Resilience to Nature’s Challenges are holding a joint disaster preparedness event in Lower Hutt next month where residents can learn about the risks in their area.
Senior Social Scientist Dr Julia Becker will speak about the natural disasters that the Hutt Valley is vulnerable to, what to expect if one happens and how to respond. She will also share findings from research into marae resilience and tsunami evacuation planning in Petone and Moera.
Red Cross volunteers will talk about how to prepare your family for an emergency, show you what to put in your disaster kit and explain how you can get involved.
The event will be held at 6:30pm on Tuesday the 12th of February at the Red Cross offices in Lower Hutt. Entry is free, but spaces are limited so registration is required. For more information and to register visit: https://are-you-ready-hutt-valley.eventbrite.co.nz
Resilience to Nature’s Challenges is one of eleven MBIE funded National Science Challenges. It is increasing the resilience of Aotearoa New Zealand by developing new scientific solutions to transform our response, recovery and “bounce-back” from our wide diversity of natural hazards.
