Mātauranga Māori Knowledge Broker

Hautapu Baker

Ngati Porou, Te Aitanga a Hauiti

Hautapu comes to us from Tauranga City Council as the Kaitohutohu Hapori Māori (Māori Community Engagement Advisor), and steps into the role of Mātauranga Māori Knowledge Broker. Hautapu has an eclectic background in banking, education, strategic Māori engagement, relationship and change development. He has a Masters of Indigenous Studies from the University of Auckland, where his passion to see the fulfilment of the kind of relationship that Te Tiriti ō Waitangi as originally envisaged comes to fruition – where Māori would continue to exercise an independent authority, but necessarily engage in an interdependent relationship with tangata Tiriti. Most importantly to Hautapu he is a partner and father to two little girls, and loves spending time with his whānau in their Ao Māori.
