Abstract

The global tourism industry has always been exposed to, and at risk from, global and more localized crises and disasters beyond the control of destinations or tourism businesses, precipitated by economic recessions, political instability, terrorist attacks, natural hazard events and pandemics, to name a few (Beirman, 2021). While tourism cannot be immune to these risks, there is considerable scope to enhance the resilience of the industry by recognising and preparing for threats, and ensuring the immediate and longer-term recovery process contributes to a more resilient tourism system.
